Pool Buyer's Guide
Pool Buyer's Guide
Picking out the right pools for you is very important to us here at American Sale. Pools are made from different materials and many times, depending who you are talking to; there are pro's and con's to all pools.
Steel Pools
Steel pools have been around from the start of the pool industry for a few reasons. Steel in itself is a very affordable material and it is very strong. The drawback to having a steel pool is that it can rust if not treated properly. American Sale recommends that all steel pools have a heavy galvanization to the steel to prevent rusting. Pool brands such as Vogue/Zodiac and Atlantic use a very heavy galvanization on all of their steel components to prevent rusting.
Steel not only is a strong material, but it can be made stronger by bending it. Having a heavily corrugated wall for your pool will not only add strength to hold the water, but it will help with the wear and tear of the harsh winters that we face here in the Midwest.
Pros for Steel Pools
Made very strong by bending the steel
There are different rust preventatives used to treat steel
Fairly inexpensive
Cons for Steel Pools
Steel can still rust if chipped or if not treated correctly
Resin Pools
Since even treated steel can rust over time if not treated properly, the pool industry began producing above ground pools to have more resin components in them. Resin is fairly inexpensive to manufacture and can be molded into appealing shapes for aesthetics purposes. As a raw material, resin is weak and needs different elastomers and UV inhibitors mixed with it to prevent cracking and deterioration from the sun’s rays.
Pros for Resin
Doesn't rust
Aesthetically very appealing
Made to be strong
Cons for Resin
Vulnerable to changes in temperature. Pliable in the summer and brittle in the winter
Resin in itself is a weak material
Resin must have UV inhibitors mixed with it to avoid UV damage
