By following these steps, you can ensure your pool water remains balanced and safe for swimming:
- Test Your Pool Water: Use a pH testing kit to check the current pH level of your pool water. Ideal pH levels should be between 7.2 and 7.6.
- Calculate the Amount Needed: If your pH levels are above 7.6, use 16 oz. of Champion Muriatic Acid per 1,000 gallons of water to lower the pH to the desired range.
- Safety First: Put on protective gear, including gloves and goggles, to ensure safe handling of the acid.
- Dilute the Acid: In a bucket, mix the muriatic acid with water at a 10:1 ratio (10 parts water to 1 part acid) to dilute it safely.
- Add Acid to Pool: Slowly pour the diluted acid into the deepest part of the pool, avoiding walls, shallow areas, skimmers, and metal fixtures.
- Circulate Water: Turn on your pool pump and let it circulate for at least five hours to evenly distribute the acid throughout the pool.
- Retest Pool Water: After circulation, retest the pH levels. Repeat the process if necessary, or until the pH is within the ideal range.
- Pro Tip: If your pH is too low but alkalinity is fine, aerate the pool using return jets or water features to naturally raise the pH.
